DAP Leaders Now Slam Hadi for DIVISIVE Remarks

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 20 — PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang’s latest attack on DAP in his “Minda Presiden” column has drawn sharp criticism from Malay leaders within the party, who accused him of sowing hatred and questioned why PAS once cooperated with DAP under Pakatan Rakyat.

In a joint statement, Syahredzan Johan, Young Syefura Othman, Syerleena Abdul Rashid, and Sheikh Umar Bagharib Ali said Hadi’s article was not scholarly but instead exploited Islam for political gain. “As we approach Malaysia’s 69th National Day, it is regrettable if a political leader chooses language that divides the people. What we should defend is Malaysia that upholds the Constitution, respects Islam as the religion of the Federation, preserves the rights of all citizens, and builds unity in diversity — not politics of fear and division,” they said.

The leaders stressed that DAP has always upheld the Federal Constitution, including Islam’s position, Malay privileges, the rights of Sabah and Sarawak natives, Malay as the national language, and the role of the Malay rulers. They added that DAP respects parliamentary democracy, religious freedom, and the rights of all communities to use their mother tongues.

They also reminded Hadi of his 1981 “Amanat” which has long been debated for its divisive impact. “Malaysian politics should move forward through arguments and policies, not by instilling fear of other races and religions,” they said. DAP leaders further demanded Hadi explain why such principles did not prevent PAS from working with DAP in the past.
