Penang CM Chow Clashes with Predecessor Lim in State Assembly

1 min read

GEORGE TOWN, May 23 — Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow and predecessor Lim Guan Eng engaged in a tense exchange in the state legislature today over a debt discrepancy. Lim highlighted Chow’s 2024 statement denying debts to the Penang Development Corporation (PDC), contradicted by Chow’s recent admission of a RM494.4 million debt. Lim accused PDC officers of misleading the legislature, referencing an erroneous reply that led to assemblyperson Ong Ah Teong’s apology. Chow defended PDC, rejecting Lim’s comparison as “false” and warning that individual staff errors could lead to bonus withdrawals, not collective punishment.
