Used Cooking Oil Powers Aviation Sustainability Efforts

Used cooking oil is now a key resource for producing sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), which has lower carbon emissions and helps prevent environmental pollution. Minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad emphasized that recycling used cooking oil reduces pollution to waterways while contributing to carbon reduction in aviation—one of the highest emission sectors.

FatHopes Energy CEO Vinesh Sinha noted that aviation is challenging to decarbonize, but SAF is a promising solution. FatHopes collects 2,000–3,000 kilograms of oil daily at Ramadan bazaars nationwide, including Sabah and Sarawak. The Malaysian government supports these efforts, hoping for policies to regulate the ecosystem effectively.
