Recently, four khatibs in Perak were suspended for delivering unapproved sermons. One khatib is from Parit Buntar and Kuala Kangsar and two others from Teluk Intan — for allegedly delivering unapproved sermons. The Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM) has standardized Friday sermon texts at the federal level to ensure mosques remain free from political influence. Meanwhile, the Mufti (Federal Territories) Bill 2024, initially tabled in July, may be reintroduced in June to clarify the mufti’s role and Islamic law determination.
