Many Malaysians would assume Bangladesh as a third world country, and certain parts of it may be it. However, Dhaka is quite the metropolis and is currently ranked as the most expensive city in South Asia for foreigners according to a Bangladeshi news agency.
A lot of the local Bangladeshis complained that the city is also expensive for them. Some even claim that the hotels in Dhaka are more expensive than hotels in European countries. This is mainly due to land scarcity in the city.
Dhaka is ranked higher than their South Asian counterparts such as Mumbai, New Delhi, Chennai and Karachi. However, the cost of living in Dhaka has been reduced since 2019. The most expensive city in the world for foreigners is Hong Kong.
