Dropbox Co‑CEO Shares Five‑Priority Productivity Hack

1 min read

Ashraf Alkarmi, co‑CEO of Dropbox, has developed a straightforward productivity system to stay focused amid constant distractions.

Each quarter, he identifies five areas where he can make meaningful progress, using them as his “North Star” to filter how he spends his time. These priorities are shared with his team and chief of staff, ensuring alignment and clarity across the company.

Meetings Skipped If Outside Dropbox CEO’s Core Priorities

Alkarmi explained that the five priorities “win at all times,” even when competing demands arise. If invited to meetings outside those areas, he skips them and sends a delegate instead. This approach helps him avoid being pulled into tasks that don’t directly advance his goals.

When he joined Dropbox in 2024, Alkarmi faced a wide range of responsibilities. He narrowed them down to focus on people, business, and performance, identifying customer churn reduction as a key business priority.

He uses Trello to manage his top five priorities, reinforcing discipline in how he structures his weeks.

Alkarmi, who previously held leadership roles at Vimeo and Meta, became co‑CEO in May alongside Drew Houston and is set to become Dropbox’s sole CEO. His system reflects a broader philosophy: clarity and focus drive progress, even in a fast‑paced tech environment.
