A Shah Alam food vendor selling jacket potatoes has gone viral after clashing with a nasi kerabu seller at the same location. The vendor allegedly told the newcomer they were not allowed to operate there unless part of an association, sparking backlash online.
A video clip of the incident showed the nasi kerabu vendor responding angrily, questioning whether they were expected to shut down immediately.
Vendor Promises to Improve After Online Backlash
Facing mounting criticism, the potato vendor issued a public apology, admitting shortcomings and pledging to “improve day by day.” They thanked supporters and asked forgiveness from those offended, saying feedback would be taken to heart.
“Without all of you, whether you criticise, praise, or buy from us, we wouldn’t be where we are today,” the statement read.
Netizens, however, remained divided. Some accused the vendor of arrogance, pointing out that selling potatoes and nasi kerabu should not conflict.
Others criticized their habit of recording women for content, while several users reported the stall to MBSA. Many comments suggested renting official stalls instead of policing public spaces.
The incident highlights tensions in Malaysia’s vibrant street food scene, where competition, regulation, and social media exposure often collide.
