KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 7, 2026 An e-hailing driver tested positive for methamphetamine following a crash near the PJS Toll Plaza on the New Pantai Expressway that killed a 22-year-old Maldivian student. The 37-year-old driver was carrying two Maldivian women when his Perodua Ativa collided with a Proton S70 at about 8.48pm on Sunday. The Ativa overturned following the impact, leaving one passenger trapped inside the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.
Meth positive
The two Maldivian women were both 22 and studying at a private higher education institution in the Klang Valley. The second passenger survived but was injured. Police conducted urine screening on both drivers following the crash, with the e-hailing driver testing positive for methamphetamine, also known as syabu. A Shah Alam Magistrates’ Court subsequently granted a four-day remand order.
Police are investigating the case under Section 44(1)(a) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which concerns driving under the influence of drugs. The victim’s body was taken to Serdang Hospital for a post-mortem examination. Authorities are also appealing to witnesses and motorists who may have dashcam recordings of the collision to come forward and assist the investigation.
