New: 19-Year-Old Female Student Found Dead in Kuantan; Boyfriend Remanded

KUANTAN, Oct 7, 2026 — A 19-year-old female student was found dead in a rented room in Kuantan early Wednesday morning, following what police believe was a dispute with her boyfriend.

Kuantan District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Ashari Abu Samah said police received an emergency call at about 4.32am from a 19-year-old man who claimed a fight had occurred between him and his girlfriend.

The man, believed to be the victim’s boyfriend, contacted police to report the incident.

Upon arriving at the scene, officers found the victim unconscious on a bed inside a rental room on the ground floor of the house.

Student Found Dead

Ashari said an examination by a forensic specialist from Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital (HTAA) revealed signs of pressure on the victim’s neck before she was pronounced dead.

Preliminary investigations indicate the incident was triggered by a misunderstanding between the victim and the suspect.

The 19-year-old man was arrested at the scene to assist investigations.

Police subsequently obtained a seven-day remand order from the Kuantan Magistrate’s Court beginning today to facilitate investigations under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

The victim’s body has been sent to the HTAA Forensic Department for a post-mortem examination.

Police have urged the public not to speculate or spread unverified information, warning that such actions could interfere with the ongoing investigation.
