At least five states—Kelantan, Perak, Pahang, Terengganu, and Johor—are grappling with escalating elephant and tiger encroachments, causing millions in losses for residents. Hafizudin Nasarudin, chairman of Persatuan Aktivis Sahabat Alam (KUASA), warned that unchecked habitat destruction from logging, monoculture plantations, and uncontrolled development is driving wildlife into human settlements. Once intact forest reserves and wildlife corridors are now fragmented, forcing animals to seek food and space in villages. Hafizudin urged immediate action to prevent urban invasions, highlighting an ecological crisis threatening safety, livelihoods, and biodiversity due to unsustainable development policies.
