An 80-year-old former loan shark, Ng Kwang Keng, was sentenced to six years’ jail on Dec 30 after evading justice for 33 years. In 1990, Ng stabbed debtor Lim Kim Leng, 27, in the thigh over a $22,000 debt during an argument at Taman Ho Swee.
Fatal Stabbing
Lim died weeks later from complications. Ng fled, was caught in Malaysia for an immigration offence in 2022, and deported to Singapore in December 2023. Initially charged with murder, he pleaded guilty to the reduced charge of voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous means. The knife was never recovered.
