A 25-year-old woman whose car was hit in the fatal Tampines crash is seeking psychiatric treatment for trauma, Minister of State Baey Yam Keng has said, according to an AsiaOne report carried by Malay Mail on Wednesday (Nov 4).

Baey, who is also an MP for Tampines GRC, gave the update in a Facebook post after visiting the woman. He said she did not suffer any serious physical injuries in the crash.

Family car scrapped after the crash

The car she was driving belonged to her father, Baey said. It was badly damaged and had to be scrapped, and her father needs a car to drive to Jurong Island for work.

Baey said they discussed the help the family needed, including legal advice and insurance claims. He said he hoped “our referrals would accord them the necessary assistance soon”.

He also asked to meet the relevant agencies to discuss measures on Tampines Avenue 12 to prevent similar accidents.

Fatal Tampines crash: driver faces nine charges

The crash on Tampines Avenue 12 on Thursday (Oct 29) involved two cars and a motorcycle. The motorcyclist and his wife, who was riding pillion, were flung off the bike and seriously injured. Both later died in hospital. The couple were expecting their second child and leave behind a six-year-old son.

Muhammad Zulfiqar Abdul Aziz, 30, allegedly caused the crash while driving a deregistered car with a cloned number plate. He allegedly failed to keep proper control of the car on a left bend, and it went straight into the centre divider, broke through the metal railings and entered the opposite lane, where it hit the motorcycle and a car.

Zulfiqar allegedly fled the scene with a female passenger. Both were arrested on Friday (Oct 30).

On Saturday (Oct 31), he was handed nine charges for traffic offences, including dangerous driving causing hurt and failing to stop after an accident. Court documents show he is under a disqualification order running from March 2026 to March 2032.
