In Masjid Tanah, Melaka, five officers from the Department of Fisheries (DOF) were injured during a seven-hour operation to capture giant arapaimas fish, an invasive species. The officers, aged 35 to 59, were hurt when the aggressive fish lashed out during the capture. The fishes, each weighing 200kg and measuring 2.7 meters long, were kept in a water tank under an abandoned building. Locals and nearby restaurant visitors regularly fed the fish, unaware it was illegal to own them. The aquatic giants were safely caught and transferred to Zoo Negara, and the owner surrendered them voluntarily after being informed.
