Malaysia Urges Global Focus on Worker Welfare Amid AI Disruption

Human Resources Minister Steven Sim Chee Keong urged global leaders not to overlook workers’ welfare amid AI advances and shifting trade dynamics. Speaking at the Global Skills Forum 2025, he warned against exploiting gig workers and called for agile, skills-based training aligned with industry needs.

Worker Welfare during AI Disruption

Sim highlighted Malaysia’s RM6.17 billion investment in workforce upskilling via HRD Corp, and Budget 2026’s tax incentives for AI training. Under Deputy PM Zahid’s leadership, a national TVET platform is being developed. With nearly four million participants in National Training Week, Malaysia envisions ASEAN as a unified, skilled region driving inclusive growth and innovation.
