COPENHAGEN – Greenland’s Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen urged NATO allies to stand together in defending international law after US President Donald Trump dismissed the Arctic island as “a big, poorly run piece of ice.” Nielsen rejected the characterization, saying Greenland’s 57,000 citizens are proud global partners.

He emphasized the importance of preserving NATO and the post-war geopolitical order, warning that these foundations are under challenge. Earlier this year, Trump revived his push to seize Greenland from Denmark, prompting European nations to send troops in solidarity. Nielsen said he hopes allies will unite to maintain stability and respect international law.
