Hernando Giraldo Franco, 62, Garcia Iglesias Hector Daniel, 53, and Garces Murillo Mateo Andres, 49, pleaded guilty to charges of theft, housebreaking and concealing criminal benefits.
Singapore Landed Home Burglaries
According to the report, the three arrived in Singapore in April or May 2025 on their first visit and then teamed up to target private residential estates.
Franco rented a car, drove the other two around and took them to buy tools, acting as lookout and getaway driver. Garcia and Garces bought caps, gloves, masks and black jackets, and were the ones who entered the homes.
On May 9, 2025, Garcia and Garces climbed a wall and got into a house in Dunearn Close through a window. They searched the master bedroom and took gold coins, jewellery, diamond rings, earrings, luxury watches and cash worth about S$644,700.
The following night, the pair targeted a home in Eng Neo Avenue. They fled after hearing noises, then returned through an open sliding door and tried without success to force open a safe with a screwdriver. An elderly resident spotted Garces and shouted. As Garcia ran from the dressing room, the resident poured kettle water on the floor and Garcia slipped and fell, but he still managed to escape.
The men discarded their tools and clothing in a forested area. Police arrested all three near their hotel on May 11, 2025, and all the stolen items were eventually recovered.
Foreign Men Not Spared
District Judge Ong Luan Tze described the case as serious, pointing to the night-time break-ins, extensive ransacking and damage to property.
She rejected a lighter sentence for Franco on the basis that he did not enter the homes, saying his role as lookout and getaway driver made him equally culpable.
Franco was sentenced to six years and eight months’ jail, while Garcia and Garces were each jailed for seven years and four months.
