Four Arrested, RM4.31 Million Meth Seized in Penang Drug Bust

Police have arrested four people, including a married couple, and seized 86kg of methamphetamine worth RM4.31 million in raids linked to an international drug syndicate operating between Thailand and Malaysia.

Penang police said the operation followed intelligence shared by Thai authorities after a Malaysian suspect was arrested in Hua Hin on August 8 with 166kg of methamphetamine hidden in his vehicle.

Modified Cars Used to Smuggle Drugs Into Malaysia

Dubbed Op Zorav Terra, the Malaysian operation saw two local men and a Thai woman arrested in Selangor on August 13, followed by the arrest of a 19-year-old man in Butterworth the next day.

Police later discovered 80 packages of methamphetamine hidden inside a specially constructed compartment in a Nissan Teana’s boot. Investigations found the syndicate had allegedly been active since June last year, with transporters paid around RM6,000 per delivery.

Police believe the drugs were brought in from Thailand for the Malaysian market and potentially onward shipment to other countries, with Malaysia allegedly used as a transit point.

Five vehicles worth about RM420,700 were also seized. The suspects, aged between 19 and 25, are being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
