KOTA BARU, Sept 4, 2026, Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor has called for ordinary Malaysians to take a greater role in determining the country’s direction, arguing that the elite should no longer dominate national decision-making. Speaking during the Podcast Anak Muda at the 72nd PAS Muktamar, Sanusi said the elite represent only 10 per cent of the population yet control up to 80 per cent of Malaysia’s wealth.

Leader and Elites

“An estimated 75 to 80 per cent of the country’s wealth is owned by this group, while 90 per cent of Malaysians share only about 25 per cent. I think this is unfair. So, it is time for ordinary people to determine our own fate. Do not leave your fate in the hands of the elite. They do not understand us,” he said.

Sanusi added that the elite often misinterpret colloquial language used by ordinary citizens as crude or disrespectful, highlighting the disconnect between both groups. He stressed that Malaysia’s structure must change to reflect the struggles of the majority.
