French President Emmanuel Macron has unveiled a new government led by Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu, his seventh since taking office. The reshuffle comes amid a deepening political crisis, with Lecornu facing potential ouster in a divided parliament.
France’s Political Crisis Deepens
Bruno Le Maire was appointed defence minister, while Roland Lescure took over the economy portfolio. Key ministers—including those for foreign affairs, interior, and justice—retained their posts.
Culture minister Rachida Dati, despite facing corruption charges, also remained. Macron’s snap election gamble last year backfired, fracturing parliament into rival blocs. Lecornu will deliver a policy speech Tuesday, with opposition parties threatening a no-confidence vote.
