Gabungan Teksi Urges Against Illegal Ride-Hailing Services

Gabungan Teksi SeMalaysia urged the Transport Ministry to combat illegal ride-hailing services, or kereta sapu, more effectively, as current efforts seem insufficient. President Kamarudin Mohd Hussain said inadequate enforcement allows illegal operators to hide behind e-hailing services.

Road Transport Department’s Ops Ulat recently arrested 15 individuals for unauthorized transport services. Since 2022, 469 illegal operators were fined RM1.66 million. Kamarudin called for granting enforcement authority to the Land Public Transport Agency.

Gerakan E-Hailing Malaysia stressed the need for collaboration to eliminate kereta sapu. Experts highlighted risks to passenger safety and regulatory challenges posed by illegal services.
