Harmoni Raises $10M to Modernize Factory Floors

Harmoni, a startup founded in 2023 by David Caputo and Adam Ellis, has raised $10 million in Series A funding led by Bessemer Venture Partners to modernize America’s factory floors.

Unlike Silicon Valley companies building fully automated plants, Harmoni is targeting the country’s 280,000 existing factories, many of which still rely on decades‑old machinery and manual processes.

Harmoni vs. Autonomous Factories: Competing With Robots Through Retrofits

Harmoni’s system revolves around custom tablets that magnetically attach to machines, allowing workers to clock in, access instructions, track jobs, and report issues in one place.

The company’s new AI product, HAL, leverages data from these tablets to answer questions and automate tasks. Workers can ask HAL why a machine is running slowly, file maintenance requests, or flag problems for the next operator — effectively “speaking to the machines.”

With around 40 customers, including aerospace and defense manufacturers, Harmoni expects rapid growth. Experts say tools like Harmoni’s could help address labor shortages, with Deloitte estimating U.S. factories may need 3.8 million additional workers by 2033.

Caputo stresses Harmoni isn’t designed to replace people but to reduce repetitive administrative work, enabling factories to compete with autonomous facilities while keeping human workers central.
