Malaysia’s Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad has revealed that about 85 per cent of tuberculosis (TB) cases reported in the country involve Malaysians, while only 15 per cent involve foreigners. He said the data counters misconceptions that the spread of the disease is primarily linked to foreign nationals.

The minister noted that TB remains endemic in Malaysia and is linked to socio-economic factors such as crowded living conditions and nutrition, while urging the public to recognise symptoms like prolonged coughs, night sweats and weight loss.
Dzulkefly encouraged early treatment at medical facilities, community support for patients, and preventative measures including BCG immunisation and healthy lifestyles to reduce the risk and impact of TB across the population.
