The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has filed a RM1.8 million lawsuit against Sunway Lagoon following a food poisoning outbreak during its family day event on Oct 4, 2025. The Shah Alam High Court suit, lodged on Jan 2, alleges breach of contract and negligence in food preparation.

Over 870 participants, including children, reported symptoms such as diarrhoea, vomiting, and fever within 48 hours of the event attended by 5,800 guests. Authorities ordered the closure of the park’s food section for 14 days. MCMC seeks refunds, medical costs, damages, and compensation for operational disruption and reputational harm.
Regulators argue that negligence may have contributed to the incident, prompting legal action to ensure accountability. The case underscores growing scrutiny over food safety standards in major recreational venues.
If proven, the lawsuit could set a precedent for stricter enforcement and higher liability for operators. Industry observers say businesses may need to enhance safety protocols to maintain public trust and avoid costly legal repercussions.
