KUALA LUMPUR: The Home Ministry has successfully cleared a backlog of 19,205 permanent residency (PR) entry permit applications accumulated from 2013 to 2023. Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said 15,081 applications were approved while 4,124 were rejected.

He added that all 2,575 new PR applications for 2024 are expected to be processed by the end of August, with 1,900 received as of June already being reviewed. Saifuddin said the ministry now processes an average of 300 applications monthly, ensuring no future backlog.
