A 25-year-old Chinese national detained at Hong Kong International Airport with about two kilogrammes of cocaine allegedly from Penang had been promised RMB2,000 (about RM1,200) to carry the drugs, Bernama reported on Monday (Oct 26), citing Malaysian police.
Bukit Aman Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) director Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said preliminary investigations found the man obtained the drugs from an unidentified individual at a supermarket in Penang.
Cocaine from Penang found in baggage
According to Bernama, the man is believed to have carried the drugs from Penang on Thursday (Oct 22). The cocaine was found in his checked baggage during a search by Hong Kong customs authorities.
Hussein said the suspect’s passport was issued in October 2026 and showed no other travel records. He added that the man had made several hotel bookings during a three-day stay in Malaysia.

NCID to work with Hong Kong
“The NCID will liaise with the Hong Kong authorities to obtain further details,” Hussein was quoted as saying when contacted.
He said the department would seek information on syndicate members involved in Malaysia.
Charged in West Kowloon
Hong Kong Customs said the man was detained at the airport on Thursday after he was detected carrying two kilogrammes of suspected cocaine in his baggage, Bernama reported.
He has been charged with one count of trafficking in a dangerous drug, and the case has been set for mention at the West Kowloon Magistrates’ Courts.
According to Bernama, drug trafficking under Hong Kong’s Dangerous Drugs Ordinance carries a maximum penalty of life imprisonment and a fine of HK$5 million (about RM2.7 million) upon conviction.
