Malaysia’s bid to revive the RM100 million High-Speed Rail (HSR) between Malaysia and Singapore collapsed in court. Mohd Hatta Sanuri’s suit against ex-PMs Dr. Mahathir Mohamad and Muhyiddin Yassin over the project’s 2021 axing were dismissed.
HSR revival fails
The court deemed the claim unclear and directed Hatta to pay RM10,000 to Mahathir, Muhyiddin, and three others. Allegations of misusing public funds lacked specificity. The project, aiming to shorten travel to 90 minutes, faced suspension under Mahathir and was officially canceled in 2021. Anwar’s government plans to revive it, seeking proposals from local and global firms.
