KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 23, 2026 – An Indian journalist from The Republic Media Network has claimed controversial preacher Zakir Naik made a series of remarks critical of India’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) during a meeting in Putrajaya.
According to senior journalist Anirudda Bhakat, the conversation was secretly recorded as part of what the media organisation described as a “sting operation”.
Bhakat reported that Zakir said he had no intention of returning to India while the BJP remains in power, claiming he would be unable to receive a fair trial and could face imprisonment.

During the conversation, Zakir reportedly dismissed allegations against him, including money laundering and hate speech charges, insisting there was no evidence to support the claims.
The journalist also reported that Zakir believed growing public dissatisfaction could weaken the BJP and even lead to the government’s collapse before the next general election.
Zakir was further quoted as saying Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was a better alternative to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, although he described Gandhi as lacking political experience.
The report also stated that Zakir plans to deliver a lecture in Bangladesh in the near future.
