MACC confirmed that former Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob is a key suspect in a corruption investigation involving RM700 million in government publicity funds. This is the first time the Bera MP has been officially named a suspect. The probe, under Section 16A of the MACC Act 2009 and the Anti-Money Laundering Act, led to the arrest of four aides and the seizure of RM170 million in cash and RM7 million in gold bars from a suspected proxy’s flat. Ismail will be questioned again on Wednesday, with up to 10 more witnesses set to be called.
