John Ternus Calls Duo “Most Transformational iPhone”

iPhone Duo Launches With RM9,499 Price Tag

Apple has officially unveiled the iPhone Duo, its first foldable smartphone, marking the company’s boldest design shift since the original iPhone in 2007.

Introduced at the “Surprise and Shine” event, the Duo features a book‑style fold with a 7.6‑inch inner display and a 5.4‑inch outer screen, allowing users to run two apps side by side. Priced at $1,999 — and up to $3,199 for higher configurations — it costs $800 more than the new iPhone 18 Pro.

iPhone Duo Marks Apple’s Biggest Design Shift Since 2007

Apple CEO John Ternus described the Duo as “the most transformational change to iPhone since the original.”

The device promises enhanced selfie capabilities and a wider screen for improved video viewing, positioning itself as both a phone and a compact tablet.

Foldable phones remain a niche market, with IDC estimating shipments at just 2% of global smartphone sales in 2026. Yet analysts believe Apple’s entry could reshape the industry.

IDC forecasts Apple will ship more than 17 million foldable iPhones by 2027, capturing about 40% of the global foldables market.

Whether the Duo becomes a status symbol or fizzles like the iPhone Air remains uncertain. Its unique design, high price, and Apple’s loyal customer base could either redefine luxury tech or test consumer appetite for radical change.
