Johor Firefighters Battle Peatland Blaze, Monitor Smoke Near Singapore

KOTA TINGGI, Jan 28 — According to Bernama, the Johor Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) is closely monitoring smoke from a peatland fire in Taman Bayu Damai, Pengerang, to ensure it does not affect Singapore’s airspace. Deputy director Muhammad Al Mustakim Abdul Hady confirmed aerial water bombing and fire breaks are containing the blaze.

Three fire sites were identified, with two extinguished, while 153 residents were evacuated. JBPM’s Air Unit carried out 21 water drops totaling 33,000 litres, dousing 54.8 per cent of the affected area. Operations continue to prevent further spread and safeguard communities.
