MIC leader P Kamalanathan praised former Prime Minister Najib Razak for his contributions to the Malaysian Indian community, claiming he outdid other prime ministers. Speaking to FMT at a George Town event, Kamalanathan highlighted Najib’s allocation of nearly RM1 billion for Tamil school infrastructure during his 2009-2018 tenure, including an extra RM10 million for Tamil preschools in 2016. He also noted Najib’s increase in Indian student university admissions. Responding to a survey showing Indian support for Najib’s royal pardon bid, Kamalanathan, a former deputy education minister, hoped Najib, currently jailed for corruption, would be granted house arrest. The majority of Indians support Najib’s release, but a large segment of Malaysians reject his release.
