PKR Youth chief Muhammad Kamil Abdul Munim on Tuesday (Nov 3) accused PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang of CSA double standards, saying a similar deal had been signed when PAS was part of the government, FMT reported.
Kamil, who is also political secretary to the finance minister, was responding to Hadi’s condemnation of the confidence and supply agreement (CSA) recently signed between the government and seven opposition MPs.
Hadi likens CSA to Dajjal
Earlier the same day, Hadi had likened the agreement to the deception of the Dajjal, or the “great deceiver”, according to FMT.
In a statement, the PAS president said the CSA was “Dajjal-like” because power was no longer seen as a trust to be upheld for the benefit of all, but had become a means of pressuring others to keep the government in power.
He also said any party forming the government must carry out its duties to the people without extra pledges or undertakings, FMT reported.
Those who signed the CSA include Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin and five other Bersatu MPs, as well as Muda’s Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman, according to the report.
Kamil points to 2021 MoU
Kamil said a memorandum of understanding was signed on Sept 13, 2021, between Pakatan Harapan and the government of the day, which included PAS, under then prime minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
He said that although it was called an MoU, it contained elements of a CSA and was aimed at ensuring government stability and the passage of the national budget.
According to FMT, under that MoU the government agreed not to dissolve Parliament before July 31, 2022, while Pakatan Harapan agreed to support or abstain on the 2022 budget and supply bill and not to back motions amounting to a vote of no confidence.
CSA double standards claim
“What is permissible for us is forbidden for you?” Kamil asked in a Facebook post, criticising Hadi for using religious terms to judge matters PAS had previously accepted.
FMT reported that the new CSA gives the seven MPs access to constituency development funds, which government MPs have received over the past four years.
The agreement also sets out two reforms that the government must carry out before the end of the parliamentary term: limiting the prime minister’s tenure and separating the roles of the attorney-general and public prosecutor, according to the report.
