Driver Tests Positive for Drugs After Fatal Teluk Intan Collision

A tragic accident in Teluk Intan on Sunday, 26 July, claimed the lives of two teenage girls after a car driven by a 28‑year‑old man collided with their motorcycle. 

Hilir Perak District Police Chief Chua Kok Lian confirmed that preliminary urine screening showed the suspect tested positive for benzodiazepines. He has been detained for investigations under suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs.

Teluk Intan Crash Sparks Drug‑Driving Investigation

The crash occurred at 6:35 p.m. along Jalan Padang Tembak when the suspect allegedly lost control while overtaking another vehicle. His car struck a motorcycle, another car ahead, and a young boy standing by the roadside. 

The victims, Nur Dania Arissa, 17, and Nur Atikah Abdullah, 16, were pronounced dead at the scene. The suspect and the injured boy were rushed to Teluk Intan Hospital.

Police are investigating under Section 44(1)(a) and Section 44(1A)(a) of the Road Transport Act 1987, alongside a drug‑related probe under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. Authorities urge witnesses to contact Inspector Mohd Amirrudin Shafiei at 013‑912 6959 or report to the nearest police station.
