Menara Tun Perak, the iconic Kuala Lumpur skyscraper formerly known as Menara Maybank, has been put up for sale, offering investors the opportunity to acquire either a partial or full interest in the property. No asking price was disclosed in the announcement reported by Malay Mail on October 29. Standing 244 metres tall along Jalan Tun Perak, the building was completed in 1988 and served as Maybank’s headquarters for nearly four decades before the bank moved to Merdeka 118 in May 2026.
Former Maybank Headquarters Offers Investors Redevelopment Potential
Property consultancies Knight Frank Malaysia and CBRE|WTW have reportedly been appointed jointly to advise on the proposed sale. The building’s central location near Chinatown, Central Market, Dataran Merdeka and several public transport stations is being highlighted as a key attraction for prospective buyers.
Historic Tower Could Be Repurposed for Commercial or Hospitality Use
Potential buyers could retain the property for commercial use, upgrade its existing facilities or explore converting it into a hotel, serviced accommodation or mixed-use development, subject to feasibility studies and regulatory approvals. The proposed sale comes as Kuala Lumpur’s city centre continues to undergo redevelopment, potentially creating new opportunities for landmark properties with established locations and infrastructure.
Menara Tun Perak, once Malaysia’s tallest building, is being offered to investors for a full or partial sale, with potential for redevelopment.
