Former Pengkalan Batu assemblyman Datuk Norhizam Hassan Baktee, 60, says the nicknames he earned as an elected representative, including “YB Beliau” and “YB tembak babi” (shoot pigs), won’t stop him from serving again.
Flash Floods, Roads and Small Contractors: Norhizam’s Pengkalan Batu Agenda
The BERSATU candidate for the Melaka state election said the labels are just part of his experience and reflect his willingness to go to the ground to solve residents’ problems. He said representatives must be brave and work from the heart.
Norhizam, who is also BERSATU Hang Tuah Jaya deputy division chief, spoke after the party’s candidate announcement at Baitul Tariq in Klebang.
He wants to focus on flash floods, which he claims drains have not fully solved, as well as roads, education and help for small entrepreneurs with licences and business locations. He also wants open tenders for small G1 and G2 contractors instead of large concession projects.
He won the seat in 2018 on a DAP ticket. In 2021, he ran as an independent and lost to BN’s Datuk Kalsom Noordin. This will be his third contest, and he is confident his experience and ties with residents will help. “People say I’m 60, but my spirit is still strong,” he said.
