Unfortunately for the LGBTQ community in Malaysia, the rainbow pride Swatch watches are criminally offensive if you own them. This is due to the county’s laws against homosexuality. Currently, the order falls under the Printing Presses & Publication Act of 1984.

Furthermore, Swatch is the owner of major watch brands like Tissot, Omega and Longines. It is a similar modus operandi of how LVMH and Kering works in the fashion and leather goods industry. It is not clear if these other brands are affected, but generally, higher end brands like Omega tend to avoid political associations.
Among netizens, there are conflicting viewpoints when it comes to this as some are viewing this as a human rights violation. However, others are seeing this as a necessary step as being a homosexual is “unethical” to some. Despite this all, it appears to be limited to these specific Swatch watches.
