A survey by the Merdeka Center reveals that Malay sentiment towards Malaysia’s unity government has improved in its second year, though a majority remains skeptical. In 2024, 36% of Malays felt the country was on the right track, up from 23% in 2023, while those with a negative view declined from 67% to 55%. The improvement is attributed to cautious hope for economic recovery, despite ongoing concerns about high living costs and economic challenges. Comparatively, in 2019, under the first Pakatan Harapan government, 31% of Malays felt the country was moving in the right direction, with 46% expressing dissatisfaction.
