Malaysia is strengthening its position in the global halal economy, with confidence, quality assurance and supply-chain integrity identified as key advantages for local businesses.
Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation chairman Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican said international buyers increasingly view halal certification as more than a marketing label, instead treating it as a comprehensive guarantee of quality and integrity.
Malaysia’s halal reputation gives local businesses an edge in global markets
Reezal said Malaysia has remained at the top of the Global Islamic Economy Indicator for 12 consecutive years, recording a score of 165.1 points. He noted that Malaysia maintained a significant lead over Saudi Arabia, Indonesia and the United Arab Emirates, highlighting the country’s strong reputation in the sector.
He stressed that maintaining this position requires consistent standards and transparency throughout the supply chain. Beyond certification, businesses need to build international confidence through reliable products, clear processes and strong integrity.
The continued expansion of the global halal market presents Malaysian companies with opportunities to strengthen exports and reinforce the country’s role as a leading halal economy hub.
