New: Malaysian installed devices in Singapore flat that blasted 50,000 scam calls in 50 mins

A Malaysian electrician has been sentenced in Singapore for setting up scam call devices linked to a Taiwanese syndicate. Chong Wei Hao, 42, received five years and three months’ jail and a fine of S$895 on Apr. 2. The devices blasted over 50,000 calls in 50 minutes, connecting to 18,000 phone numbers.

Victims lost more than S$1.6 million in under three weeks, with scams impersonating financial institutions and government officials. Police reports tied 40 numbers to the operation. Chong, a freelance electrician, was recruited via Telegram by a user named “NASA” and paid in cryptocurrency. He rented a flat and installed equipment between Mar. 30 and Apr. 17, 2025, before being arrested.
