Recently, a TikToker made a summary on how much he spent on dating in Malaysia. One of the costs that shocked netizens was that he apparently spent RM1,500 for valentines day. Some users agree that this is the cost, while others disagree.

Are Malaysians spending RM1,500 for Valentine’s day?

An X user proceeded to ask his followers if this is a normal occurrence. Netizens say that he probably did not have a girlfriend before, sarcastically of course. For some high end establishments, dinner can be around RM300+ per person, which could make the RM1,500 number possible.

A woman adds that she spent quite a number on her boyfriend when they were dating. She spent over RM1,000 for a watch, and RM300+ for dinner, for her boyfriend’s birthday. This spending for one’s lovers is not strictly a gender thing as both genders reciprocate the costs depending on the nature of the relationship.
