Marrying a Local Could Get Foreign Workers Deported, Warns M’sian Immigration

Foreign workers in Malaysia holding Temporary Employment Visit Passes (PLKS) risk deportation if they marry locals, as such unions automatically revoke their work permits under Immigration Act 155. 

Foreign Workers can be Deported if they Marry Local

The rule aims to curb misuse of marriage for residency or business purposes, especially among certain nationalities. Immigration Director-General Datuk Ruslin Jusoh clarified that while JIM cannot annul marriages, it can enforce deportation. 

Muslim marriages remain valid under Syariah law, but deportation complicates divorce. Non-Muslim unions may be dissolved by the High Court. Foreigners must seek approval via a special form, and JIM is working with state religious authorities to tighten procedures.
