Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman Muhyiddin Yassin said nine PKR MPs’ call for a Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) into judicial appointments reflects genuine concerns over judicial independence. He noted their demand aligns with PN’s earlier worries, highlighting that Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) has already rejected the idea of an RCI to probe alleged interference in court decisions involving Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. Muhyiddin believes Anwar will not allow an RCI, as Cabinet approval is required. He added the AGC also dismissed involving the Parliamentary Select Committee in judicial appointments, effectively rejecting PKR MPs’ push for reforms to uphold judicial freedom and integrity.
