Recently, a mother went viral for breastfeeding her child on the MRT. There were some who initially criticized her for doing it in public. But, social media users came quickly to defend her due to the fact that she’s using a cover.
Mother Breastfeeding on MRT Defended by Netizens
A screenshot from Threads showed one user criticizing the mother for breastfeeding in public. Another user quickly responded, pointing out that the husband was fine with it and that the mother was still appropriately dressed.
They added, “Would people be more comfortable if the baby cried from hunger instead?”
On X, users pointed out that this is exactly why nursing covers exist. They noted that such practices are common in Europe and emphasized that breastfeeding in public is a normal action, especially when dedicated spaces for nursing are limited.
Some users pointed out that there are no public signs on trains prohibiting breastfeeding. They emphasized that it is allowed as long as the mother covers herself appropriately.
The user then raised a rhetorical question: if revealing outfits are acceptable in public, why should breastfeeding — a natural act — be treated differently?
