Party insiders suggest Wanita Umno chief Noraini Ahmad is the frontrunner, citing her seniority and leadership status equivalent to deputy president. Elevating Noraini—currently deputy minister for women, family and community development—could revitalize Wanita Umno’s influence amid the party’s waning support. She is also seen as a potential returnee to the higher education portfolio. Meanwhile, talk of a Khairy Jamaluddin comeback appears unlikely due to past conflicts with Umno president Zahid Hamidi and his 2023 expulsion. Noraini declined to comment on the speculation.
