Khairy Backed as Future PM
While the notion sparked excitement, Malaysia’s parliamentary system makes it nearly impossible in the near term. Khairy, expelled from Umno, remains an outsider, and the first-past-the-post system limits new parties’ chances.
However, a proposal to hold Kuala Lumpur mayoral elections could provide him a platform to prove leadership. Analysts say such elections would mark a major democratic shift, though resistance from Malay nationalist parties remains a significant obstacle.
