The Perikatan Nasional (PN) opposition, led by Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin, has rejected a government-proposed memorandum of understanding regarding allocations for PN MPs. Hamzah cited four main reasons, including concerns over constitutional rights, as the MOU allegedly infringes on the rights of Malays and Bumiputeras and restricts MPs’ freedom. He also pointed out that some conditions in the MoU conflict with traditional, cultural, ethical, and religious values. The document requires PN MPs to avoid hate speech, declare assets within 14 days, and uphold equality principles, raising concerns about the implications for parliamentary privileges and MPs’ rights. – Sept 14, 2024.
