Comparatively, Thailand’s RON95 is significantly higher at around RM5.36 per liter, while Indonesia sets it at RM4.27, twice that of Malaysia. In the Philippines, RON95 is priced at RM5.70. Despite subsidies, it’s reported that Malaysia’s petrol subsidies mainly benefit the top 20% income group, with the bottom 20% receiving only 4% of the total subsidy, as per a 2021 report by Ekonomi Rakyat.
