PKR Youth Pushes Targeted PTPTN Loan Cancellation

1 min read

At the annual congress of PKR Youth (AMK) in Melaka, its chief Kamil Abdul Munim highlighted two pressing issues: student loans under the National Higher Education Fund (PTPTN) and the Budi95 subsidized fuel quota.

Kamil proposed targeted cancellation of PTPTN loans for students from low‑income families, stressing that poverty should not punish children with lifelong debt. He argued that education must serve as a pathway out of poverty, not a burden of repayment.

PKR’s PTPTN Promise Revisited Amid New Proposals

On fuel subsidies, Kamil urged the government to restore the RON95 quota to 300 liters per month — or even 350 liters for high‑mobility groups — once fiscal conditions allow.

He acknowledged the rationale behind targeted subsidies but emphasized that policies must adapt when circumstances change.

Kamil also outlined AMK’s broader vision: ensuring youth transition smoothly from education to employment, income, ownership, and eventually building wealth for future generations.

He rejected the idea of young Malaysians waiting endlessly for government aid, instead calling for a generation that owns homes, land, companies, and intellectual property.

While PKR and PH have previously struggled to deliver on PTPTN promises, Kamil’s speech reinforced AMK’s commitment to reforms that balance fiscal discipline with tangible benefits for the people.
