Rafizi says gov’t failed to gain popularity with RM100 handouts

1 min read

Former economy minister Rafizi Ramli criticised the government’s RM100 disbursement exercise, saying the move backfired by creating long queues and technical glitches instead of boosting support. He said relying on the MyKasih system, a third-party platform, raised concerns over data security and exposed weak planning. “The government cannot be surprised when people rush for a public giveaway,” he said. Rafizi argued that sustainable aid should be based on verified income data, with direct bank transfers. He also warned that identity card-linked RON95 fuel subsidies could face similar glitches, leaving motorists stranded if systems fail. He said the government failed to achieve its objective of winning public support with the RM100 handouts.
