The Tampa Bay Rays beat the Cleveland Guardians 7-3 in Game 6 on Monday night to win the American League Championship Series 4-2 and reach the World Series, where they will meet the Milwaukee Brewers, according to MLB.com’s series coverage and official game data.
Because neither the Rays nor the Brewers has ever won a World Series, the matchup guarantees a first-time champion. It will be the Rays’ third trip to the Fall Classic, after losses to the Phillies in 2008 and the Dodgers in 2020.
Rays
The Rays led 3-0 after three innings at Tropicana Field, with Freddy Peralta picking up the win after allowing one run over 5⅓ innings. Junior Caminero and Yandy Díaz each homered and drove in two runs, and Richie Palacios added two hits and two RBIs. Tampa Bay put the game away with two runs in the seventh and two in the eighth, while Cleveland scored once in the sixth and twice in the eighth.
The Rays had taken a 3-2 series lead with a 3-1 win in Cleveland in Game 5, behind seven strong innings from Drew Rasmussen. For the Guardians, the defeat extends the longest title drought in the major leagues, which dates back to 1948.
The Brewers have been waiting since last Thursday, when they swept the Los Angeles Dodgers 4-0 in the National League Championship Series to reach the World Series for the first time since 1982. Game 1 of the World Series is scheduled for Friday night in Milwaukee.
